Mish Mash is an experimental game/cross-media project for creating surrealistic and expansive collaborative drawings. It is an enhanced digital variation on the game Cadavre Exquis (exquisite corpse) invented by surrealist artists in the 1920s.
The game aims to trigger imagination and bring people together by celebrating diversity and individuality in a playful way. Our ultimate plan is to exhibit the collaborative drawing(s) not only on the players screens but also in the real world via the organisation of public exhibitions.
We envision utilising different mediums like video projection, robots carving the drawings out on beautiful sandy beaches and good old fashioned print... We might even have a go at breaking the Guinness World Record for biggest collaborative drawing.
How it works?
Mish Mash is a turned-based game where each player adds their drawing to the previous player's drawing. As part of this process, players only see a segment of the drawing they are adding onto. Once a player finishes adding their part, they get to see how their drawing connects to the rest of the collective drawing.
The process of connecting drawings to each other is repeated and gradually makes the collaborative drawing expand (theoretically to infinite dimensions). The build submitted here has 9 turns to complete a drawing; we have successfully tested 25 and 49 turns.
For public events, we set up a location(s) where people can add their drawings via tablets. Depending on the number of devices we have, we can as well limit the time each player has to complete their drawing to avoid waiting lines.
Our current state of production is a stable working demo. We aim at releasing the game to the public for both Android and iOS during the 3rd quarter of 2018 .
